PLAY BETTER - STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING TIP OF THE WEEK

"I highly recommend Kevin's services to anyone wanting to improve their game. He has a great knowledge of strength and conditioning. I believe his techniques allow me to compete at my highest level possible."
ADAM FOOTE OF THE COLORADO AVALANCHE

Welcome to the third installment of the Train Like a Pro newsletter. This week I am going to give you five great exercises that will really start improving your game. These exercises will produce much better results than exercises such as crunches, arm curls or bench presses. These exercises are designed to directly strengthen the muscles you use in hockey in a functional manner:

Reverse axe chop-2sets of 10 each side

Lateral Stepup-2 sets of 8 per side

Squat and press-2 sets of 10

Stability ball pushup-2 sets of 10

Stability ball core twist- 2sets of 8 per side

** Be sure to start with lightweights and/or a limited range of motion with these exercises.

As mentioned last week, the off-season lends a great opportunity fro everyone to improve his or her speed, power, agility, and strength and energy systems. Train Like a Pro can design you a great program to help you reach your goals. Email Kevin directly from his website to discuss the many different options available.

For players in the surrounding area you can check under programs and then pricing at the www.trainlikeapro1.com website. We will be running many great on and off-ice sessions this summer. Off-ice strength and conditioning, power skating, skills clinics and much more are available. I came across another great hockey resource site at www.passthepuck.net I recommend you have a look at their great website.

Please feel free to forward the newsletter to any of your friends or fellow coaches. They can sign up for the newsletter with one click at my website. Next week we will continue adding more exercise pictures while adding in some great nutritional advice.

Best regards
Kevin Miehm(SSC,CSC)
